The talk will focus on the concept of pedagogical content knowledge and the possibility of its developing via videorecordings of mathematics lessons and their analyses in the course of Mathematics Education for future secondary mathematics teachers. Some illustrations will be given how student teachers are to develop their awareness of common misconceptions and misunderstandings by analysing a series of extracts from mathematics lessons carefully chosen for this purpose. However, what the student teachers actually notice in the lesson depends on the structure of their attention, on their ability to notice. Therefore, I posed the following questions: What do the students attend to (focus on) in a pedagogical situation, on their own, that is, without any expert drawing their attention to important moments? How deep are their observations? How do their evaluations of the same moment differ? Some preliminary results of research will be given.
