A kinetic description of a plasma in external and self-consistent fields is given by the Vlasov equation for the particle distribution function coupled to Poisson’s equation for the self-consistent fields. The numerical simulation of this model is challenging due to the high-dimensionality of the phase-space. In this talk, I will discuss the challenges for a parallel implementation of such a six-dimensional problem and possible solutions like efficient data structures and how to improve data locality.
