In the past decade, Star has been engaged in a series of studies investigating students’ learning of algebra. This program of research began with laboratory-like studies of brief instructional interventions but transitioned to large-scale evaluations of year-long curricula. In this talk, Star will cover the findings from the specific studies but also offer reflections on challenges inherent in the move from lab to classroom, with a particular emphasis on the development of flexibility.
