A totally real theta characteristic of a real curve is a theta characteristic which is linearly equivalent to a sum of only real points. We give lower and upper bounds for the number of totally real theta characteristics of a given real curve in terms of its discrete invariants. These are sharp for small genus. Furthermore, we point out the relation to the number of facets of the convex hull of the canonical embedding of the curve.
