The Hofer-Zehnder capacity of a symplectic manifold has an easy definition but is hard to compute. Finiteness has strong consequences for the Hamiltonian dynamics on the symplectic manifold. Even for simple manifolds like unit disk bundles (i.e. classical Hamiltonian systems) finiteness is in general open. I will explain conditions under which symplectic homology with local coefficients of a unit disk bundle of M vanishes. For instance this is the case if the Hurewicz map \pi_2(M)→H_2(M) is nonzero. As an application we prove finiteness of the \pi_1-sensitive Hofer-Zehnder capacity of unit disk bundles in these cases. This is joint work with Urs Frauenfelder and Alexandru Oancea.
