Abstract
Precise focusing of nonlinear ultrasonic waves is crucial for the efficiency and safety of various biomedical procedures. Focusing in ultrasound applications is achieved geometrically, with acoustic lenses or spherical arrays of piezoelectric transducers. Such setups can naturally benefit from shape optimization. As ultrasonic waves at high intensities give rise to nonlinear phenomena, these problems are constrained by quasilinear acoustic wave equations. In this talk, we will discuss the mathematical questions arising in this context and present some of the obtained results.
