In statistical physics, the integrated density of states (IDS) is a key tool as it measures the number of states below a threshold energy per unit volume. For Schroedinger operators, the behavior of the IDS for low energy differs drastically for random and non-random potentials. In this talk, we will show how to employ an inequality of Thirring instead to study the random breather model with a non-linear potential where the classical approach via Temple's inequality fails.
