In deformation quantization classical mechanics is considered as a limit of quantum mechanics as $/hbar$ tends to zero. A concrete realization of a deformation quantization is the asymptotic pseudodifferential operators and the methods of deformation quantization have given new insight to the index theory of elliptic pseudodifferential operators. In the talk I will give an introduction/overview of these ideas.
